Gee Vee Travel of Barnsley has broken with a 23-year tradition of buying another marque and bought its first Irizar i6 Integral coach from Irizar UK.

Gee Vee Travel has always run an exclusively DAF-powered fleet, and the award-winning DAF PACCAR MX11 320 engine fitted in the i6 was part of the attraction. Now the coach is at work, Gee Vee owner Gordon Clarke says that’s not the only attraction…

“It’s definitely an eye-catcher and the customers love it, as does it driver, Alan Barlow, my son-in-law,” said Gordon. “I also like the interior, in which we specified the PB seats.”

The 12.9-metre, two-axle coach has 53 seats, each with seatback table, and has a centre toilet, twin-screen DVD system, dash-mounted fridge, reversing camera, air horns and is fully carpeted. The Euro 6 engine drives a ZF AS-Tronic auto-shift gearbox.

Gee Vee was set up by Gordon 32 years ago, and now has 18 coaches, of which 13 are front-line tourers. Gee Vee – with many family members in the business – runs more than 400 tours a year plus day excursions, many of which are sold through its five travel shops. The company also supplies coach travel to other coach tour companies.
