Tri-axle i6 gives peace of mind, says Catteralls

Catteralls Coaches of Warwickshire is finding its new Irizar i6 Integral tri-axle is the perfect formula for recent hires.catteralls triaxle-3

The 61-seat vehicle is one of three Irizar UK Integrals Catteralls has bought, the first an i6 Integral tri-axle which entered the fleet in March 2015, and more recently an i4 Integral. The latest is a 14-metre which, says Paul Catterall, eliminates any concerns about weight limits.

ducks-2“The first i6 we bought has now done more than 100,000 kilometres and has performed really well. We’re very happy with the latest vehicle, too,” he said.

The new coach is powered by DAF’s MX13 Euro 6 engine, which Paul says is, like all MX series engines, very easy to service: “It drives as well as the other i6, though my son Matthew says it’s actually slightly better.

“There’s significant demand for high-capacity coaches – they’re ideal for school groups where they want to combine two classes, and increasingly useful for tour work. We had a roadside check in Germany last year on another coach, and even with 38 people aboard, there was enough luggage to leave the coach close to the weight limit.

“Until 19.5-tonnes is allowed, the tri-axle gives us peace of mind – people seem to take far more luggage on holiday these days.”

Catteralls, based at Southam, has 40 vehicles.
