Three more Irizar Integrals join the Golden Boy fleet
The three coaches follow two other i6 Integrals bought in 2014, which Director Terry McIntyre says have performed very well and are a good fit for its premium fleet work: “We are, like many operators, having to step up fleet replacement to meet 2020 ULEZ rules in London, where we do a lot of work,” he says.
“Our fleet profile is already at 3½ years which, for a fleet of 30-plus vehicles, is probably hard to improve but the Irizar i6 Integral allows us to move in that direction very cost-effectively.”
The i6s are 13-metre, two-axle 57-seaters with the standard i6 refinements including air conditioning and two-screen DVD system, plus seatback tables and footrests, a built-in vacuum system and reversing camera. They have DAF’s MX11 271 369bhp engine and ZF’s acclaimed AS-Tronic autoshift gearbox.
The i4 is a 12.9-metre coach with DAF’s MX11 240 326bhp engine and a ZF Ecolife fully-automatic gearbox. It has 70 all age/3 point belted seats, two-monitors, DVD system, Black Tag alloy wheels, extra marker lights and integral vacuum cleaner.
“Drivers and passengers both like the i6s, and we are now looking at the new i8, although it may be a year or two before we need to make a direct replacement into our high-end touring fleet,” says Terry. “The i4 is a vehicle I have liked since I saw one of Clarkes’ of London’s vehicles in build, and provides the high-capacity option, again, very cost-effectively. Like the i6s, all the feedback has been positive.”
At the routeone Coach Awards 2015, Golden Boy won both the Engineer of the Year and Operator of the Year in its category. It also has CPT Workshop Accreditation, is a member of CoachMarque, and BUSK Benchmark, and is an Irizar UK service agent.
