Shades of grey are the future, says Ely operator
Greys of Ely liked the i6 Integral it bought from Irizar UK in 2014 so much, it has added another to its front-line fleet.
The Cambridgeshire operator has carefully specified the interior with the aim of appealing to a younger generation: “Children and young adults boarding the coach often say ‘wow’ and have said the coach is futuristic; the last thing we’d want is to present them with a new coach with echoes of the old school bus,” says Managing Director Richard Grey.
The 57-seat, 12.9-metre two-axle i6 has been fitted with seats which have a flat-weave upholstery coupled with iLeather, with the deliberate aim of mimicking the interior colours and luxury of high-end cars such as Mercedes and Audi, said Richard.
“Let’s face it, nobody builds quality cars with garish coloured seats; it’s all muted greys and blacks. We believe that’s the way to appeal to passengers.”
Greys has an extensive operation with 30 vehicles, around 15 in the front-line fleet. It runs the full range of work, including battlefield tours, corporate and private hire and schools work. The new coach will be on its high-end work.
