Olympia breaks with tradition
Wigan-based Olympia Travel UK broke with a tradition of buying Volvo coaches to take its first i6 Integral from Irizar UK.
The 25-vehicle operator was looking for a change of engine in their fleet having stuck with the same marque since 1995: “We looked at another DAF-engined coach but it was more expensive,” says Shaun Lewis – a Director of the company with his brother, Michael.
“The i6 also offered us 53 seats in a two-axle coach, which was what we needed,” he says. And having plumped for the i6 Integral, he drove it back from Irizar UK’s Worksop showroom.
“It gives a nice drive, and although it’s only been on one tour so far, I’ve had no complaints from the driver,” he said.
The i6 selected by Olympia has DAF’s MX300 engine, a ZF AS-Tronic autoshift gearbox and the refinements of leather headrest inserts, drinks machine, toilet and reversing camera with alarm. Olympia has also added air horns.
The coach joins a fleet of six touring under contract for Just Go! The remainder of the fleet are worked on school contracts and private hire. Olympia was established as a minibus operation by Shaun and Michael’s father, Joe, back in 1984, moving to full-sized vehicles in 1995.
