Meynell back for another i6 from Irizar UK

Family-run KM Motors of Barnsley was one of the first operators to invest in an i6 integral two years ago, and now it has bought its second from Irizar UK.

Keith Meynell, the Managing Director, had always been a DAF operator but previously bought BOVA bodywork. He says his experience of the last two years has convinced him the i6 is streets ahead: “The i6 we bought has been brilliant, and we’ve had first-class support from Irizar UK.

“This model has better kerbside appeal with the public and the coach has been excellent on tyres, offers a lovely ride and, after two years, there’s no sign of any corrosion.”

Keith said he’d not been convinced of the durability of the modern, lightweight seats but he’d been proven wrong: “We have cupholders, footrests and magazine nets and not one has broken. I’ve also been watching residual values and they are holding up very well.”

This time around, KM Motors went for the same 12.2-metre, two-axle coach, powered by DAF’s PR265 engine and with a ZF AS-Tronic auto-shift gearbox, but went for custom seats with leather piping, which he says has really given the interior extra style.

KM Motors – now in its 43rd year – runs eight coaches on its own tours and private hire, having downsized some time ago when it decided to get out of the home-to-school market.
