Mainline turns to Irizar Integrals

mainline%2012.9mA visit to the Irizar factory in Spain by South Wales operator Mainline Coaches has proven to be the start of a love affair with DAF-powered Irizar Integral coaches.

This 12.9-metre, 57-seat tourer with all the standard equipment including drinks machine, seatback tables, toilet. DVD system and reversing camera, joins a fleet which has long favoured either Irizar coachwork or DAF engines, and Director Chris Mainwaring says the i6 Integral is perfect for ‘joining the dots!’

“The best of both worlds, really,” said Chris, whose i6 had the DAF MX11 engine coupled with a ZF Ecolife gearbox. “Since the coach was delivered, I have barely seen it, and it hasn’t missed a beat.”

So impressed has Mainline been that they also bought a 10.8-metre i6 within a matter of weeks, and an i6 tri-axle touring coach from Irizar UK, based in Worksop.

The coaches join a fleet of 48 vehicles, of which around 30 are front-line tourers engaged in private hire work and extended tours for tour companies. The Mainwaring family established the business in the late ’60s, and Chris’s parents, Howard and Joan, are still on the board.
