Alexcars gets a 70th ‘birthday present’
The family-run company, now in its third generation, has been going since it was set up in 1946. It’s been a customer for Irizar bodywork in the past, But the decision to take the DAF-powered Integral route came after a CPT London Region visit to the Irizar headquarters.
“We were impressed with the factory itself but also the whole Irizar ethos,” said Doug Hibberd, one of the family. “We got to meet the Irizar UK people and, when we got home, decided to mull over the idea of buying an i6.
“It’s our 70th year this year, and we wanted something really special, so decided this coach was the one.”
The 12.9-metre two-axle coach has DAF’s MX11 engine and ZF’s EcoLife fully-automatic gearbox. Alexcars has plumped for a 55-seat layout, with toilet, DVD system and wood-effect flooring. It has a reversing camera, extra marker lights, Lane Departure Warning and is finished in Alexcars eye-catching, traditional livery.
“Since deciding to buy the coach, we’ve been impressed with the sales and back-up from Irizar UK. In fact, I’d say we feel at home with Irizar UK,” said Doug. “One of our long-serving drivers, Martin, has been presented with the keys and he’s dead chuffed. It’s a small reward for his loyalty.”
