Irizar looking forward to a greener future at Busworld

Irizar looking forward to a greener future at Busworld

Staff and customers of Irizar UK will be travelling to Brussels for the Busworld exhibition to celebrate the Spanish company’s 130th anniversary.

But Irizar will be looking forwards, rather than back, with the company’s stand featuring the latest developments in diesel, hybrid and e-mobility technology, including hybrid coaches and electric bus and mass-transit solutions. The latest version of the i4 Integral commuter coach will be a highlight of the show.

Irizar will also be celebrating a world first in its status as a sustainable manufacturer, having earlier this year become the first company in the international bus and coach manufacturing sector to obtain Environmental Product Declaration Certification for the Irizar i4 Integral range. The award of EDPC status is the result of over four years of work in the application of lifecycle methodologies and the establishing of product category rules to evaluate the complete environmental profile of its coaches and buses, whether diesel, hybrid, or all-electric.

The certification covers the entire life of the product from manufacture through use to end-of-life, and encompasses the consumption of fossil resources, the production of polluting emissions, and the creation of hazardous substances.

Irizar is currently actively participating in circular economy, energy efficiency and eco-innovation projects. Development and manufacturing processes are carried out with a holistic approach aimed at reducing the global environmental impact of its products.

It applies environmental criterial from end-to-end, encompassing not just design and development, but also the use of raw materials and the management of all components and materials at the end of vehicle life.

The company is also part of the Klima 2050 initiative, which is committed to a reduction of 40 per cent in greenhouse gas emissions from 2005 levels by 2030 and 80 per cent by 2050, and, additionally, to increase renewable energy consumption to 40 per cent of the total used by 2050.

UK sales director Julie Hartley said: “With its 130-year heritage, Irizar is one of the world’s oldest vehicle manufacturers. Its current product lines offer an unparalleled level of luxury, operational efficiency, and sustainability as shown by the award of EDPC, with much more to come, and we can confidently say that it is commanding more interest in the UK market than ever before as British operators embrace a greener and more efficient future.”
