Irizar i6 Integral tri-axle reigns at Kings Coaches
Kings Coaches of Colchester has celebrated its 65th anniversary with the acquisition of a new 53-seater, tri-axle Irizar i6 Integral touring coach.
The coach replaces an older model from another manufacturer on the seven-strong Kings fleet. It features a powerful DAF MX-13 340 462 hp engine driving a 12-speed ZF AS tronic automated manual transmission.
Proprietor Andrew Cousins, who today runs the company which was started by his grandfather, said the new purchase followed success with the company’s first ever Irizar Integral: a 10.8 m two-axle that was acquired last year.
“That decision was driven by the ability of Irizar to build the vehicle to the exact specification that we wanted, and the second Integral has followed because our operational experience of the first is so good,” he reports.
>“They are great-looking vehicles, and we were already fans of the DAF engines. But the really outstanding factor is Irizar (UK)’s aftersales service. We maintain our fleet in-house, but Irizar (UK) will send a mobile engineer straight out to us to deal with any warranty issues that occur.”
Kings Coaches specialises in national and international tours and private-hires, and the luxurious specification of the new i6 Integral reflects the demands of this work.
The i6 Plus seats, which have embroidered numbers, feature lateral displacement, footrests, magazine holders, and seat-back tables. Passengers are entertained by a Bosch Professional-line Audio system and Actia DVD player.
Drivers enjoy bi-xenon lighting, and the reassurance of reversing and road cameras. An integrated coach washing system helps them to maintain the vehicle’s immaculate appearance while on tour. The coach is finished in a special commemorative 65th anniversary livery with metallic paintwork.
Mr Cousins plans to keep the Irizar Integral on the fleet for seven to eight years.
