i6 Integral delivery marks a double anniversary for Irizar and Peter Godward Coaches
Up-market Essex operator Peter Godward Coaches is celebrating a double anniversary with Irizar: 2017 marks 50 years of coach operation for the Godward family, and the second of two new i6 Integrals that they have taken this year is the 300th Irizar Integral to be delivered to the UK.
G & G Coaches, as it was then, was established in the Autumn of 1967 by Peter Godward and his father; initially using just a single Bedford OB Coach. The company was rebranded as Peter Godward Coaches after the passing of Mr Godward Senior, and is now run by Peter and his son John.
The company was an early adopter of the Irizar Integral product, taking two of the first to arrive in the UK five years ago, and the Spanish manufacturer’s products now make up the overwhelming majority of the Basildon-based fleet.
John Godward said: “The weight of the Integral coach is less than that of a chassis-built equivalent, and that allows us more seating and luggage capacity. The Integral is also very competitive in price.
“Another advantage over the competition is the Paccar DAF engine, which is well-proven and very reliable. We pride ourselves on maintaining our entire fleet, old and new, in-house to a very high standard, and the Irizar Integral is one of the most straightforward coaches to work on.
“The I6 displays excellent kerb appeal and demonstrates the WOW factor – Which is a factor as to why our customers return to us time and time again”
“We carry out a large and eclectic range of work here, including private hire, contracts, day excursions, corporate travel, rail replacements, airport diversions and our own holiday programme. Our coaches travel all over the UK and Europe and beyond on a regular basis, but equally do a lot of work running in and out of London.
“The Irizar i6 Integrals can fit into any stream of work, Day trips, holidays, tours and transfers”
“Environmental issues are also at the forefront. The London emissions zone deadline of 2019 is getting ever closer, and it’s important for us to get as many Euro VI coaches on the fleet as possible.
The support we receive from Irizar on the rare occasion we have needed it has been incredible, the team there know their product and what it is capable of and its no wonder why there are becoming more and more Irizars on the road.
The latest i6 Integrals are 12.2-metre 49-seaters. To suit the multiplicity of roles they will undertake, equipment includes a driver’s bunk, CCTV, a drinks machine and under seat USB charging-points plus a voltage inverter. The seats are fitted with seat-back tables and three-point belts, while luggage loading and unloading is aided by cant-rail lighting.
Power is provided by the advanced DAF MX-11 291 engine, which produces 396 hp, and drives through ZF’s Ecolife automatic gearbox.
Older Irizar-built vehicles were taken in part-exchange for the new arrivals, which are schemed to remain on the fleet for up to eight years.
The second Irizar i6 Integral in the order was handed over to Peter Godward at Irizar’s annual iDrive trackday and ride-and-drive event at Rockingham Motor Speedway, where leading figures from the coach industry enjoyed a selection of motor-related activities, including sampling the latest products from Irizar.
