Buzzlines adds two i6 midis
Kent-based operator Buzzlines has taken delivery of two i6 10.8-metre midicoaches from Irizar UK.
The pair are being run on Buzzlines’ high-profile Unilever transfer contract, replacing vehicles of much lower specification and matching the exacting needs of the environment-conscious customer. Both are Euro 6 compliant 41-seaters with a whole host of extras, including wifi, USB charging points to every seat and 240-Volt power sockets. One of the two is equipped with a side-mounted wheelchair lift.
“When we won the contract renewal to move Unilever staff from the railhead in Leatherhead to work, it came with a number of stipulations,” said Buzzlines Director Nigel Busbridge. “There was an option to run electric buses but we felt that the costs associated with this option outweighed the benefits. Instead, we decided to operate the contract with Euro 6 coaches.
“Choosing Irizar UK i6 integrals wasn’t a difficult decision; we already operate them and in my view, they are among the best-looking coaches on the market. The build quality is excellent and they are, all round, of a superior standard to many other coaches.”
As with all the Buzzlines fleet, they are equipped with CCTV and vehicle tracking, to which Buzzlines has added seatback tables, DVD and powered locker doors, wood-effect flooring and an inverter to power the 240-Volt system. The coaches have DAF’s award-winning MX11 engines with ZF AS-Tronic auto-shift gearboxes.
“They will cover relatively low mileages in the life of the contract,” said Nigel. “I fully expect them to have great residual value, as they are a very desirable size of coach. Needless to say, they have performed faultlessly since delivery and are well liked by customers and drivers alike.”
