Swallow flies to Irizar for high-quality coaches
Rainham-based Swallow Coach Company has taken delivery of three new Irizar i6 Integral coaches as it refreshes its 25-strong fleet in preparation for the expansion of London’s Ultra-Low Emissions Zone.
The three coaches are all 12.9-metre, two-axle 57-seaters, and replace tri-axle coaches from other manufacturers. They have three-point belts, reversing cameras, vacuum-cleaners, Actia videos with two monitors and Bosch audio systems. The i6 seats have hard-wearing i-leather piping, and interior refinements include on-board drinks facilities and USB charging points.
All three coaches have advanced PACCAR MX-11 271 engines with a 369 hp output. Two have ZF AS-Tronic automated manual transmissions while the third has a ZF EcoLife automatic.
Swallow Coach Company was established in 1947, and offers group travel, private-hire and schools’ services across London and the south-east of England.
Director Ricky Webb said: “We’ve had Irizar-bodied coaches, but these are our first Irizar Integrals, and our first-ever coaches with PACCAR engines.
“We are impressed with the quality of the Irizar product, and the factory in Spain where they are built. All our fleet is maintained by ourselves in-house as reliability and safety are paramount in our operations, and we were swung by the Irizar back-up and two-year factory warranty.”
