Success follows success for Irizar with Chambers Coaches
After 18 months of reliable service from an Irizar i6 Integral coach, Northern Ireland operator Chambers Coaches has added a second example to its fleet.
The 12.9 m vehicle has 57 PB seats and is powered by a DAF MX-11 271 369 hp engine driving through a ZF Ecolife automatic transmission.
Other equipment includes passenger footrests, three-point seat-belts, privacy glass and powerful Bi-Xenon headlamps.
A company spokesman said the decision to acquire the second i6 Integral had been driven by positive experiences with the first.
“We also run chassis-built vehicles with Irizar bodywork, but the Integral coaches with DAF engines are noticeably quieter and better on fuel,” he said. “They deliver a better passenger experience.”
Finished in a distinctive yellow livery, Chambers’ 18-strong fleet operates from Maghera, and undertakes tour, corporate and sports team work throughout the British Isles for a variety of up-market clients.
Typically, a Chambers coach will pick-up incoming tourists in London for tours that incorporate England, Scotland and the island of Ireland, but cruise-liners calling into Belfast Port are also an important part of the Chambers portfolio, as are sports teams visiting Ulster.
“With our client base, it’s very important for us to have vehicles that look the part,” the spokesman explained.
“We keep our coaches for between eight and 10 years, and it’s vital to us that the oldest ones are of the same standard as the newest. If a respray or a retrim is required, then that is what they get.”
While under warranty, the new Irizar i6 Integrals will be maintained by the local DAF dealer TBF Thompson, but the remainder of the fleet is serviced in-house.
