I6 Integral wins R Drury over to Irizar
“I drove it, liked it and bought it,” is Richard Wilson’s concise account of how he came to add an Irizar i6 Integral to his five-strong fleet of coaches based in Goole.
It is the first-ever Irizar on the fleet, and the first coach with a DAF engine for the operator.
“I’d heard very good reports about Irizar Integrals from other operators, and was impressed enough that I thought I’d better try one. I liked it so much I thought it was time we had something different,” says Richard Wilson, who is a partner in the company. Drury Coaches has previously operated a one-make fleet.
Specification of the 57-seat, 12.9 metre coach includes a centre toilet, Bosch Smart Series Audio with Actia twin-monitor video, seat-back tables and a drinks machine.
It is fitted with Irizar’s ultra-modern virtual cockpit instrument display, and further driver aids include adaptive and predictive cruise control, AEBS and LDWS. Driver and courier seats are in leather, and tinted windows further enhance the i6 Integral’s appearance.
Power is provided by DAF’s economical MX-11 270 367 bhp engine driving through ZF’s advanced EcoLife automatic transmission.
“The DAF engine is new to us, but we have had good results from the ZF EcoLife on other coaches previously,” Richard Wilson says. “We’re very comfortable with the EcoLife, it’s a good transmission.”
Richard Wilson reports a very positive reaction from customers to the new Irizar i6 Integral, which he plans to keep on the fleet for the next seven to 10 years. Like the rest of the fleet, it will be maintained in-house by the operator.
*R Drury Coaches was founded in 1972, by Richard Wilson’s stepfather. Richard joined the company in the early 1990s, and now runs it in partnership with his mother and stepfather.
It runs five vehicles ranging in capacity from 36 to 57 seats, with school contracts and private hire forming the mainstay of its work, along with some rail replacement services. The company is CoachMarque accredited.
