Flagship Irizar luxury comes to the two-axle market with the i6S Integral
Irizar launches the new i6S Integral luxury coach at Coach & Bus UK 2017, bringing levels of comfort and sophistication previously only found in the Spanish manufacturer’s tri-axle i8 Integral flagship to the two-axle market.
Major changes over its i6 Integral stablemate, which remains in production, include a restyled aerodynamic body which incorporates LED lighting inside and out, and luxury passenger seating with a wide range of comfortable options.
Technically, the i6S has a fully multiplexed wiring system which is carried over from the i8, and the driver enjoys a revised cockpit area with a new instrument panel, which can include a Human-Machine Interface screen. This offers the driver touchscreen and joystick control over all vehicle systems, in addition to a satellite navigation facility.
Other driver-pleasing features on the show coach include rain-sensing wipers, LED cant-rail lighting, powered pantograph underfloor luggage-locker doors, leather steering wheel with integrated switches, a driver’s safe, and a locking cupboard over the centrally-mounted toilet. The toilet incorporates a smoke alarm and electric hand-dryer.
There are aircraft-style overhead luggage lockers inside the saloon, which has wood-effect flooring and Hispacold climate control with an auxiliary preheater. The driver can adjust the cockpit temperature independent of the saloon.
Passenger entertainment is provided by a Bosch professional in-line system, including a DVD player with 22” front and 15” centre LCD monitors with connection for iPhone 5 and beyond.
Safety systems include a reversing camera, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, active emergency braking system, electronically-controlled air suspension, electronic stability control, ASR traction control, a ZF Intarder, and a tyre-pressure monitoring system. The i6S Integral conforms to R/6.02 roll-over regulations.
Driveline on the show coach is a DAF MX-11 271, with 369 hp and 1600 Nm power and torque outputs, driving through a ZF Ecolife six-speed transmission. Other DAF/ZF driveline options are available, but all DAF engines fitted to new Irizar Integral coaches are now of the latest Euro VI OBD-C type, which incorporate a wide range of improvements to reduce fuel consumption and maintenance requirements.
While the show vehicle is a two-axle 12.92 m version, other lengths are available on two and three-axle wheelplans. The show coach has 53 exclusive Irizar i6plus passenger seats, plus courier, all fitted with three-point belts. It is fitted with Alcoa Dura-Bright wheels shod with Continental tyres.
