Barnes Coaches gets first i6 Integral
Swindon-based Barnes Coaches has bought its first Irizar i6 Integral – a 12.9-metre, 53-seat coach which will serve its broad-based business.
Family-run Barnes – now in its fourth generation – runs a premium fleet of touring coaches with an average age of under five years. Barnes Coaches Director Luke Barnes says the primary attraction was the DAF engine – a favourite with its engineers – but the Irizar style is proving a hit with drivers and passengers.
“We limit ourselves to two manufacturers’ engines, one of which is currently offering us limited choice of bodywork. The i6 Integral was one of the DAF choices, so we thought we’d give the coach a try,” he says.
After a month on the road, the coach has gained impressive passenger appeal, says Luke: “The passenger feedback has been good and the driver assigned to the vehicle is very happy with it.”
Barnes Coaches runs 30 vehicles, 28 of which are executive coaches. Established 100 years ago by Luke’s great grandfather, Barnes coaches is currently run by Luke, his brother Matt and father Lionel, providing Swindon with its own tours and excursions programme, theatre trips and day breaks.
