Scots operator gets first Irizar i6
The 12.9-metre, two-axle 53-seater is a departure for the Perthshire operator but it says the experience has so far been very positive: “It was the best replacement for the vehicle model we were buying, and all in all, we’re very happy with it, including the driver,” said Director David Rutherford.
Earnside’s experience of coach buying suggested the best option would be to specify the more powerful MX300 Euro 5 DAF engine, which produces over 400bhp and 2,000Nm torque. The standard engine is the DAF PR 265, with 360bhp.
“We have found that the higher-powered engine sometimes produces better fuel economy,” said Mr Rutherford. “So far, our main touring season hasn’t started so we have only short local journeys to look at the fuel return we are getting.”
Mr Rutherford said Irizar UK had been on the company’s ‘radar’ for some time and eventually a deal which price-matched their previous supplier plus the specification of the vehicle – which includes seatback tables, reversing camera and half-leather seats – clinched a deal.
Earnside runs ten touring coaches on the full range of coach work, including private hire, tour company work and local transfers. Established 45 years, Earnside is now run by the second generation of Rutherfords.
