‘Fantastic’ back-up cheers Avensis
Hampshire-based Avensis Coach Travel says its Irizar i6 Integral has been the darling of the fleet since it arrived.
The Romsey operator, which runs a mixed fleet of high-spec touring coaches, said the driving experience has been bolstered by the vehicle having had very few issues since delivery and is not only turning in very respectable fuel economy but has had “faultless” back-up from the Worksop dealership.
“We had a minor battery issue and another small fault but they were sorted out immediately. The coach and the service has been fantastic, and when we’re in a position to buy again, we’ll be talking to Irizar UK,” said Director Simon Humby.
Avensis went for a 12.2-metre high-line i6 two-axle vehicle which, said Simon, has both the luggage capacity and the low weight it needs for its extensive, long-distance touring work which includes carry inbound group and cruise ship touring and transfers.
The principal driver of the coach and Simon’s father took up the option of attending Irizar UK’s one-day training course to familiarise themselves with the DAF-powered Integral coach: “It has been at work since day one – so much so, we haven’t managed to get it into livery yet. Everyone who drives it, loves it,” said Simon. “We are getting 11.5 to 12 mpg.”
Avensis formed a management buyout team to acquire the Buddens Coaches business in 2006. It now runs eight top-spec touring vehicles.
