Eagle Coaches flies back to Irizar for outstanding service

Outstanding aftersales service has led to a new Irizar i4 Integral 12.9 metre coach joining the 22-strong fleet at Eagle Coaches of Bristol.

Eagle Coaches’ Director James Ball said: “All our fleet have DAF drivelines, because DAF has served us well since our first DAF-powered coach arrived in 1979. DAF is consistently best in reliability and offers very reasonable fuel consumption, but more importantly we have chosen an Irizar vehicle because of the exceptional aftersales service from the Spanish manufacturer. Of all the manufacturers we deal with, Irizar is the best of the lot in that respect, and this is vital because we expect this coach to last us for 10 years.”

The 57-seat i4 Integral is powered by DAF’s frugal MX-11 240 engine, with an output of 326 bhp and a generous torque spread of 1400 Nm from 1000 to 1650 rpm, driving through an advanced ZF Ecolife transmission. It joins two other Irizars: an i6 and another i4; at Eagle Coaches’ base in East Bristol.

Fitted with leather courier and driver seats and two video monitors, the i4 Integral will be initially used on Eagle Coaches’ private hire work throughout the United Kingdom before eventually being cascaded down to local contract work. It will be maintained in-house by the operator throughout its projected 15-year life with Eagle Coaches.

Eagle Coaches started off as a cycle-hire business in 1926, before moving into motor transport with a dual-purpose vehicle that delivered coal around Bristol during the week before ‘body-swapping’ to become an open-topped charabanc, which carried Bristolians on excursions to Weston-Super-Mare and Cheddar at the weekends. Eagle Coaches ran its first Continental tour in 1972, and today the company is run by father-and-son team Adrian and James Ball and specialises in private hire, including corporate work and continental trips and bespoke tours for foreign visitors, together with trips and transport for schools.
